a disease of unregulated cell division: cell divide inappropriately and accumulate, in some instances forming a tumor

the treatment of disease, specifically cancer, by the use of chemicals

cell division

the process by which a cell reproduces itself - cell division is important for normal growth, development, and repair of an organism

cell cycle 

the ordered sequence of stages that a cell progresses through in order to divide during its life; stages include prepatory phases (G1, S, G2) and division phases (mitosis and cytokinesis)

interphase

the preparatory phases of the cell cycle. the cells make a copy of the DNA and produces more organelles and cytoplasm

G1 phase

the cell enlarges, produces additional cytoplasm, and begins to produce new organelles

S Phase

DNA replication takes place. Each chromosome is replicated to produce two identical sister chromatids 

G2 Phase

the final preparatory stage, during which the cell prepares for divison

cytokinesis

daughter cells physically separate from each other

mitosis

the sister chromatids of each chromosome separate from each other, setting up the two identical nuclei of the daughter cells 

interphase
