5 nerves of the upper limb
musculocutaneous, radial, axillary, median, ulnar
Nerve roots of the 5 nerves
Musculocutaneous = C5-C7
Radial = C5-T1
Axillary = C5, C6
Median = C6-T1
Ulnar = C8-T1
What does the musculocutaneous nerve innervate?
coracobrachialis, biceps brachii, brachialis
What does the radial nerve innervate?
all muscles of posterior compartment of arm and forearm
What does the radial nerve branch into?
superficial and deep radial nerve at cubital fossa
What does the median nerve innervate?
anterior compartment of the forearm (+carpal tunnel)
What does the ulnar nerve innervate?
flexor carpi ulnaris and part of flexor digitorum profundus
What does the axillary nerve innervate?
deltoid and smaller surrounding shoulder muscles
3 branches of aortic arch
brachiocephalic trunk, left common carotid, left subclavian arteries
2 branches of brachiocephalic trunk
right subclavian artery and right common carotid artery
What does the thoracic aorta supply?
thoracic viscera, muscles of chest and diaphragm, thoracic portion of spinal cord
Where does the thoracic aorta begin?
level of T5 vertebrae
3 branches of the subclavian arteries
thyrocervical trunk, internal thoracic artery, vertebral artery
What does the thyrocervical trunk supply?
muscles/tissues of the neck, shoulder, and upper back
What does the internal thoracic artery supply?
pericardium and anterior chest wall
What does the vertebral artery supply?
brain and spinal cord
What does the axillary artery supply?
muscles of pectoral region and axilla (armpit)
Where does the subclavian arteries become the axillary artery?
after passing the outer border of the first rib
Where does the axillary artery become the brachial artery?
When it passes the inferior margin of the teres major muscle
What does the brachial arteries supply?
upper limb
What does the brachial artery divide into, and where?
the radial artery and ulnar arteries at the cubital fossa
What do the radial and ulnar arteries supply?
forearm

12 veins of the upper limb
cephalic vein, median antebrachial vein, basilic vein, median cubital vein, radial vein, ulnar vein, brachial vein, axillary vein, basilic vein, brachiocephalic vein, superior vena cava, azygos vein
cephalic vein location
ascends along the radial side of the forearm
median antebrachial vein location
ascends on ulnar side
basilic vein location
ascends on the ulnar side
median cubital vein location
interconnects the cephalic and basilic vein
radial vein location
radial side
ulnar vein location
ulnar side
brachial vein location
merging of the radial and ulnar vein parallel to brachial artery
axillary vein components
basilic vein joins brachial vein to form axillary vein
brachiocephalic vein components
subclavian vein, external and internal jugular veins
superior vena cava components
right and left brachiocephalic veins
azygos vein location
ascends from the lumbar region over the right side of the vertebral column
Where does the azygos vein receive blood from?
hemiazygos vein
Name these veins, from top to bottom.
median cubital vein, median antebrachial vein, cephalic vein, basilic vein, radial vein, ulnar vein
