what is conformity
the tendancy to change what we do, think or say in response to the influence of real or imagined pressure from a majority group
what is compliance
- only publicly agreeing with the majority not internally
- doesn't lead to a change in the persons beliefs and is temporary
what is identification
- someone adopts the views of a group they admire
- doesn't always lead to a change in beliefs
- could only be for show
what is internalisation
- person accepted fully the beliefs of the majority publicly and when they are away from the group
- often changes a persons beliefs
- usually permanent
