What is the focus of green criminology?
Green criminology considers crimes and harms against human and non‐human life, ecosystems and the biosphere It studies the causes, consequences and prevalence of environmental harm.
It studies the responses and prevention of environmental harm through the legal system (civil, criminal, regulatory), non-governmental entities and social movements
This casts a wide net when it comes to responses and prevention
It explores the meaning and mediated representations of environmental harms and crimes.
What is green criminology specifically?
Green criminology is interdisciplinary (politics, geography, natural sciences, philosophy, etc.)
Green criminology deals with definitions, theory, methods, epistemologies
Climate, non-human animals, wildlife, pollution, etc.
Some of the characteristics of green criminology is not a cohesive branch- there's lots of different project/research area (interdisciplinary).
Perspective / framework: uses things that are even less directly related to crime as we understand it more generally e.g. geology, ethics and philosophy, biology etc
