Ultrasonography
A diagnostic imaging technique commonly used to visualize the reproductive system in large and small animals.
Computed Tomography (CT)
An imaging method that uses x-rays to create detailed images of structures inside the body.
Anechoic
Describes a region that appears black on an ultrasound image, indicating the absence of echoes.
Hypoechoic
Indicates a gray area on an ultrasound image, representing tissues that are less dense than surrounding structures.
Hyperechoic
Describes tissues that appear white or bright on an ultrasound image, indicating high density.
Color Doppler Ultrasonography
A technique that visualizes blood flow in vessels, showing direction and speed using color encoding.
Corpus Hemorrhagicum
A temporary structure in the ovary that forms after ovulation and contains blood.
Placentomes
Structures formed by the attachment of placental tissue to the uterine lining in pregnant animals.
Pathological Condition: Follicular Cyst
A thin-walled cyst on the ovary, typically <3 mm thick.
Hydrometra
The accumulation of serous fluid in the uterus, often leading to abdominal distension.
Granulosa Cell Tumor
A type of tumor that arises from granulosa cells in the ovary, which can produce hormones.
Pyometra
A serious infection of the uterus characterized by pus accumulation; may lead to systemic illness.
Transrectal Ultrasonography
An ultrasound technique performed through the rectum, mainly used for reproductive evaluation.
Transabdominal Ultrasonography
An ultrasound technique used through the abdominal wall to visualize reproductive organs.
Mediastinum Testis
A linear structure within the testicle that is slightly more echogenic than the surrounding parenchyma.
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
A non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland common in older male dogs.
