lever
a simple machine that makes work easier it involves moving a load around a pivot called a fulcrum using a force
Type 1 lever (first class)
the pivot is between the effort and the load. In an off center type___ lever (like pliers) the load is larger than the effort but is moved through a smaller distance.
see saw, hammers, claws, scissors, and pliers
examples of first class lever
type 2 lever (second class)
the load is between the pivot ( fulcrum) and the effort
stapler, bottle opener, wheelbarrow, nail clipper, nut cracker
example of type 2 lever
type 3 lever
the effort is between the pivot (fulcrum) and the load
fishing rod, tweezers, tongs
examples of 3rd class levers
the amount, strength, and the direction of movement
what levers can be used to change
fulcrum
the fixed point of the lever about which it moves
the distance from the fulcrum
the amount and strength of the movement are proportional to...
second order lever
the load is between the force and the fulcrum this uses mechanical advantage to ease lifting of a large weight
