What is ATP?
A nucleotide that serves as a common and universal energy “currency” of the cells in living systems. The energy comes from the bonds in the phosphate, especially the last two bonds.
What is the chemical composition of ATP?
A nucleotide w/three P-atoms instead of one.
Functions of ATP…
It supplies energy quickly, delivering in small usable quantities. It could be used in the following:
Chemical work
Transport work
Mechanical work
Describe ATP in chemical work…
It supplies the energy needed to synthesize macromolecules in anabolism.
Describe ATP in transport work…
Supplies the energy needed to pump substances across the plasma membrane.
Describe ATP in mechanical work..
Supplies energy needed to permit muscle contraction, cilia and flagella to beat, chromosomes to move, and etc. ATP is the immediate source of energy for these processes.
