Radiopacity
The degree to which a substance inhibits the passage of X-rays, appearing white on an X-ray.
Soft Tissue
Biological tissues composed of cells that are not hard, including muscles and fat.
Contrast Medium
Substances used in medical imaging to enhance the visibility of internal structures.
Silhouette Artifact
An X-ray artifact caused when two objects with similar densities overlap, making it difficult to differentiate them.
Torsion
Twisting of an organ, often leading to obstruction and compromised blood flow.
Oblique Position
A positioning technique used in X-ray imaging to provide a different view of the anatomy.
Anatomical Structures
Different parts of the body with specific locations and functions.
Fundus of the Stomach
The upper curved part of the stomach opposite the opening.
Pyloric Part
The section of the stomach that connects to the duodenum, involved in gastric emptying.
Duodenum
The first part of the small intestine immediately beyond the stomach.
Head of the Spleen
The part of the spleen that is fixed in position and interacts with neighboring organs.
Tail of the Spleen
The movable end of the spleen, often described as having a triangular shape.
Emergent Conditions
Medical situations that require immediate attention to prevent serious health outcomes.
Intra-abdominal Fat
Fat deposits within the abdominal cavity, which can affect imaging visibility.
Esophagus
The muscular tube that connects the throat to the stomach.
Lateral Position
A position where the patient is lying on their side, used in X-ray imaging.
Dorsal Position
A position where the patient lies on their back, often used for abdominal X-ray.
Barium Sulfate
A contrast agent used in radiology to enhance images of the gastrointestinal tract.
Emergency Evaluation
Rapid assessment and imaging performed on patients with critical conditions.
Gastrointestinal Tract
The organ system responsible for digestion, including the stomach and intestines.
Hypoechoic Structures
Areas that appear dark on an ultrasound or imaging study, indicating less dense tissue.
