IFR stands for Instrument Flight Rules, which allows pilots to navigate using instruments in poor weather conditions.
Define Flight Level (FL) and how it is expressed.
FL is a level of constant atmospheric pressure related to a reference datum of 29.92 inches of mercury, expressed in three digits representing hundreds of feet.
What is the function of a non-directional beacon (NDB)?
An NDB radio beacon transmits non-directional signals to allow pilots to determine their bearing to or from the beacon.
What do the initials VFR represent in aviation?

A Squawk code is a specific code activated on an aircraft transponder for identification by air traffic control.
What does DME stand for and what is it used for?
DME stands for Distance Measuring Equipment, used to measure the slant range distance of an aircraft from the DME navigational aid.
Define Alert Area.
An Alert Area is a type of Special Use Airspace where high volume or unusual pilot activity occurs, which is not hazardous to aircraft, marked on aeronautical charts.
What is the purpose of a flight plan?
A flight plan specifies information relating to the intended flight of an aircraft, filed with an FSS or ATC facility.
Explain what a wake turbulence phenomenon is.
Wake turbulence refers to the disturbances in the atmosphere caused by the passage of an aircraft, including vortices and jet blast.
What are the responsibilities of an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS)?
An ATCS is a person authorized to provide air traffic control service and ensure the safe and efficient movement of aircraft.
What defines a Restricted Area in airspace?
