Code Talkers

The ___ were a group of 29 Navajo men that created unbreakable codes for the U.S. during the war against the Pacific. They made codes in 1.30 minutes that the Japanese could never crack. Their code was based on their native language, they could create code faster than machines and soldiers before. In order to send messages they had to carry around huge radios that weighed up to 80 pounds everywhere, desert, beach, jungle, etc. Their record was 800 messages with no errors. The Navajo men were not given credit for their work till 2001 they were awarded Congressional Gold Medals. The U.S. claimed that they didn't want to tell the public "in case they need it for later wars.".

Internment camp

After the terrible attack on Pearl Harbor FDR forced Japanese Americans into ___under Executive Order 9066. They were given 1 week to leave only allowing them to bring what they could carry. They had to leave farms, family-owned businesses, and more behind. When they arrived at the camp they were asked about their loyalty to the United States, if they said they were with the Japanese they were sent to highsecurity camps. "Caught in the Middle" The internment camp's houses were small and had no air conditioning, small cots, shared bathrooms, and coalburning stoves.
