Feeding a Dependent Resident
Position the resident in an upright position, at least a 45 degree angle.
Recorded consumed food/fluid intake is within 25 percentage points/45 mls of RN test observers.
Look at diet card and get a clothing protector, use hand hygiene for resident at beginning of the meal.

Making an Occupied Bed
Do not let resident be exposed.
Resident must not touch bare mattress at any point in time.
Direct RN nurse observer to stand on opposite side of the bed when there is a need to roll the resident.

Mouth Care
Brush resident’s teeth, including the inner, outer, and chewing surfaces of all upper and lower teeth.

Turn resident to a side-lying position to avoid choking or aspiration.

Position Resident on Side
Resident’s face should never be obstructed by the pillow.
Direct nurse observer to stand on the opposite side of the bed for safety.
Move resident towards yourself to provide plenty of room.

ROM Hip and Knee
Position resident supine.
Do not cause discomfort or pain, do not force joint beyond free point of movement.
Must ask if resident has any pain or discomfort.
Hands underneath both knee and ankle.

ROM Shoulder
Position resident supine.
Do not cause discomfort or pain, do not force joint beyond free point of movement.

Vital Signs: Bed to Wheelchair
BPM is within four beats of RN Test Observers recorded rate.
Respiratory rate is within two breaths of RN Test observer’s recorded respiratory rate.
Lock wheelchair and bed brakes for resident’s safety.
Do NOT make resident walk, absolutely no steps allowed.
No gloves, no handwashing.
Vital Signs: Wheelchair to Bed
BPM is within four beats of RN Test Observers recorded rate.
Respiratory rate is within two breaths of RN Test observer’s recorded respiratory rate.
Lock wheelchair and bed brakes for resident’s safety.
Do NOT make resident walk, absolutely no steps allowed.
No gloves, no handwashing.
Vital Signs: Manual Blood Pressure
Only one attempt at blood pressure per arm.
Systolic blood pressure within 6mmHg of RN Test Observer’s.
Diastolic blood pressure within 8mmHg of RN Test Observer’s.
