rough er
network of flat, interconnected sacs or tubes that produce and transport cellular materials, such as proteins and ribosomes.

smooth er
network of tubes that produce and transport cellular materials, such as lipids, and break down toxins with no ribosomes.

golgi apparatus
flattened fluid-filled sacs that modify, package, store, and transport cellular products, primarily from the endoplasmic reticulum. blood type is determined by this.

lysosome
a spherical sac containing hydrolytic enzymes used to digest or breakdown biomolecules and cellular waste.

cytoskeleton
a network of protein filaments and tubes found in the cytoplasm; allows a cell to maintain its shape and the position of its organelles. organelles use this to move from one place to another.

vacuole
cavity in the cytoplasm of a cell, surrounded by a single membrane; used to store water, food, or waste. animal cells have smaller stuff of this than plant cells.

chloroplast
chlorophyll containing organelle; found in plant and algal cells; it captures light energy for photosynthesis.

mitochondria
eukaryotic cells organelle; place where energy storedin food is converted to atp/energy.

nucleolus
small dense area inside the nucleus where ribosomes are assembled. the nucleolus occupies 25% of the cell ________.
