Periodontics
Specialty involved in diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting tissues of the teeth.
Periodontal Pocket
A sulcus that has become deeper than normal due to the loss of attachment.
Periodontal Probing
A technique to measure the depth of periodontal pockets to assess periodontal health.
Scaling
The process of removing plaque and calculus from the surfaces of the teeth.
Ultrasonic Scaler
Instrument that uses high-frequency sound waves to remove calculus and debris from teeth.
Curette
Instrument used to remove subgingival calculus and smooth root surfaces.
Gingival Curettage
Procedure involving the cleaning of the gingival lining of the periodontal pocket.
Dental Prophylaxis
Complete removal of calculus, plaque, and stains from all tooth surfaces.
Flap Surgery
A surgical technique involving the lifting of gums to access underlying structures.
Osteoplasty
Additive bone surgery which involves contouring and reshaping bone.
Crown Lengthening
Procedure to expose more tooth structure for the placement of a restoration.
Pedicle Graft
A type of graft using gingivae from an adjacent site for the grafting procedure.
Periodontal Dressing
Material used postoperatively to hold tissue flaps in place and protect surgical sites.
Hand Scaling
Manual technique of removing calculus using specialized instruments.
Laser Surgery
Use of lasers in periodontal procedures to remove or vaporize tissues.
Contraindications
Specific conditions or factors that serve as reasons to withhold certain medical treatments.
Dental History
