• To make an accurate replication of the maxillary and mandibular arches and adjacent tissues.
II) Selection and Prep of the Tray
A. Perforations
B. Available varieties
C. Proper tray selection
D. Sterilization
E. Adding wax to the tray
F. Adding wax to the palatal area

III) Preparation of the patient
A. Explain the procedure
B. Guard against spills
C. Minimize gagging—seat patient upright
D. Dental appliances—removed before taking impression
E. Rinse—mouthwash reduces saliva, removes debris
F. Sequence—mandibular then maxillary impression
IV) The alginate impression
A. Mixing the alginate
