Who was Adolf Hitler?
Born in Austria, fought in WWI, wanted to be an artist, leader of the National Socialist German Workers (Nazis).
What was the Beer Hall Putsch?
An attempt to take over the government in 1923.

A book Hitler wrote in jail, outlining his ideologies including the Treaty of Versailles betrayal, Lebensraum (living space), and the concept of a master race.
Who were the Gestapo?
German secret police who could do anything they wanted.

A purge in 1934 where political opponents were killed.
What is Anti-Semitism?
Discrimination against Jewish people.

German government after WWI, associated with signing the Treaty of Versailles.
What is Inflation?
Devaluation of currency which experienced super-inflation.
What was the Locarno Pact of 1925?
An agreement between France and Germany to never go to war with each other.
What was the Kellogg-Briand Pact of 1928?
An agreement between nations to renounce war as an instrument of foreign policy.
What is Isolationism?
Staying out of European affairs.
What was the Dawes Plan?
US plan to loan Germany money (200 million dollars) to help them recover.
What was the US stock market crash?
Occurred October 29, 1929, leading to the Great Depression and the US no longer being able to loan Germany money.
What is Fascism?
Country comes before individual rights; a far-right form of government.
Who was Benito Mussolini?
First fascist dictator in Italy, known for being a powerful speaker.
Who were the Black Shirts?
Mussolini's followers who marched on Rome in 1922, leading to him becoming Prime Minister.
