What is the significance of the narrative style?
- allows the reader to overtly see Ellas character development as the person who ultimately gave her a purpose in life Royal, her husband, die, and how she copes with it from her perspective.
- helps to convey to readers Ellas struggle and journey with her confidence by keeping the accounts unbiased, but still taking time to explore Ellas thoughts and actions that show the progression of her confidence or lack thereof.
Royal characterization
- Royal is a distant, judgemental, arrogant patriarch who uses her but shows little care or love.
- He limits power, diminishes her personal identity and withholds from her the only thing she really wanted (a child, which again reinforces how women are trained to see themselves only as wives and mothers).
