Size-exclusion chromatography
A method used to separate proteins based on their size.
Slurry
A mixture of solid particles suspended in liquid, often used to introduce substances into a chromatography column.
Porous beads
Small beads with pores that allow smaller particles to enter while larger particles are excluded.
Buffer
A solution that resists changes in pH when acid or base is added, commonly used in chromatography.
Column
A cylindrical container filled with materials used for separation processes like chromatography.
Initial velocity
The rate of a reaction at the start; often measured as the change in concentration over time.
Dilution
The process of reducing the concentration of a solute in a solution, often by adding more solvent.
CFU/mL
Colony Forming Units per Milliliter; a measure used in microbiology to estimate the number of viable bacteria in a sample.
Gram staining
A technique used to differentiate bacterial species into two groups based on the characteristics of their cell walls.
Absorbance (A)
A measure of the amount of light absorbed by a solution; used in spectrophotometry.
