Why do acid molecules release hydrogen ions?
So other ions can take the place of the hydrogen ion.
When do you form a salt?
Hydrogen ions are replaced by metal ions or ammonium ions.
What salt does sulfuric acid produce?
Sulfate, which contains SO4- ions
What salt does hydrochloric acid produce?
Chlorides, which contains Cl- ions
What salt does nitric acid produce?
Nitrates, which contain NO3- ions.
What happens when acids react with bases?
They neutralise each other.
What's the general formula for an acid-base reaction?
Acid + base → salt + water
How is water formed in the acid-base reaction?
By the hydrogen ion released by the acid, and the hydroxide ion released by the alkali
What do reactions with ammonia and acid produce?
Ammonium salts
