What is the scrotum?

A cutaneous sac containing the testes

What does the scrotum contain?

Contains a subcutaneous layer of smooth muscle fibers called tunica dartos

What is the function of tunica dartos and how?

Function: To maintain temperature

How:

• Contracting or relaxing of cremaster muscle 

• Contracting allows the testes to be closer to abdominal wall during cold weather 

• Relaxing allows heat dissipation 

What temperature causes seminal degeneration?

32.5 degree celsius 

What is inguinal hernia and how can it occur?

What: When the intestine enter the vaginal cavity and passes through the inguinal canal 

How it occurs: If the vaginal tunic is too large 

What is scrotal hernia?

When the intestine passes through the inguinal canal AND continue into the scrotum

What does herniated intestinal loops cause?

Have the potential for strangulation or evisceration (removal from abdominal cavity) 

What does high flanker mean?

When the testis is in the inguinal canal but not in the scrotum
