The navigation acts exemplified mercantilism by regulating colonial trade to benefit England. They restricted colonial trade to English ships so that they would obtain all of the resources in the colonies. This harmed the colonial economies because it forced them to rely on Britain, limiting their growth, raising prices on goods, and resulting in resentment.
