Schizophrenia
a disorder characterized by delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, and/or diminished, inappropriate emotional expression.
Positive Symptoms: Too much of an inappropriate response (e.g., Delusions, Hallucinations).
Negative Symptoms: Too little of the appropriate responses (e.g., Flat affect—emotionless state)
Chronic schizophrenia.
Chronic Schizophrenia patients often display persistent negative symptoms like flat affect and catatonia.
acute schizophrenia.
a form of the disorder that develops suddenly and quickly, often in response to a period of intense stress. Its symptoms tend to feature positive symptoms (like hallucinations and delusions) that come and go. Because the onset is rapid and related to stress, it generally has a better prognosis (outlook for recovery) and is more responsive to drug treatments compared to the chronic form.
