What are the levels of structural organization in the human body?
Chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, system, and organismal levels
What is the chemical level of structural organization?
Atoms and molecules. Atoms are the smallest units of matter and molecules are two or more atoms joined together.
What is the cellular level of structural organization?
Molecules combine to form cells, which are the basic structural and functional units of the human body.
What is the tissue level of structural organization?
Groups of similar cells and surrounding substances joined together to perform a specific function. The four basic types are epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous tissue.
What is the organ level of structural organization?
Tissues joined together to form organs, which are composed of two or more different types of tissues and have recognizable shapes and specific functions.
What is the system level of structural organization?
Related organs that share a common function. Examples include the nervous system and muscular system.
What is the organismal level of structural organization?
A living human body where all parts function together.
