Seer of evil: never yet have you told me a good thing. Always the evil things are dear to your heart to prophesy, but nothing excellent have you said nor ever accomplished.

Why? Kalchas has just explained that the gods' punishment is b/c Agamemnon will not give Chriseis back to her dad; and he has to give her back and lead a hetacomb to the dad to get everything to stop.

Do you of your own inclination kindly see that I become a preeminent man of the Trojans. Why? Anchises sees a suspiciously beautiful woman, assumes it's a goddess, and asks for a simple wish (gnothi seauton, meden agan, means know thyself and nothing in excess respecively)

"I wish only that my spirit and fury would drive me to hack your meat away and eat it raw for the things you have done to me. So there is no onee who can hold the dogs off from your head, not if they bring here and set before me ten times and twenty times the ransom and promise more in addition"
