Third World- was used to describe poor, non-industrialized, and economically developing countries
Developing- is used to describe a country with less developed economy, lack of sophisticated technology, and possesses a lower standard of living than industrialized countries
Developed- have a developed economy, exhibit advanced technology, and are modernized
Human Trafficking
Exploitation of humans through the threat of mistreatment, force, coercion, abduction, fraud, and/or deception
Viewed s a contemporary form of slavery and occurs when people are recruited, transported, and harbored for exploitation
Refugee
Immigrants who are given special consideration because they have been forced to leave their country due to human rights violations
Immigrant
A persons who comes to live permanently in a foreign country
Transnational Identity
The sense of belonging and identification that individuals develop when they have connections and affiliations across multiple national borders

Aid in the form of goods or services
ex. USAID, WHO, Catholic Relief Services
Critiques of Charity
Encourages dependency, not addressing the “root causes” and not addressing global power differences
