Cell Wall
A strong outer layer made of cellulose that protects the cell and gives the plant structure and support.
Cell Membrane
A thin layer inside the cell wall that controls what substances enter and leave the cell.
Cytoplasm
A jelly-like substance where most chemical reactions in the cell happen.
Nucleus
The control center of the cell that contains DNA and controls cell activities.
Nucleolus
A small structure inside the nucleus that produces ribosomes.
Chloroplast
Contains chlorophyll and allows the plant to make food using sunlight through photosynthesis.
Large Central Vacuole
A large storage space that holds water, nutrients, and waste and helps keep the plant cell firm.
Mitochondria
The “powerhouse” of the cell that produces energy for the cell.
Ribosomes
Tiny structures that make proteins needed by the cell.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
A network of membranes that helps transport proteins and other materials inside the cell.
Golgi Apparatus
Modifies, packages, and sends proteins to other parts of the cell.
