Galvanic Corrosion
Occurs when two different metals are in close proximity in an electrolytic environment, leading to the more active metal dissolving.
Uniform Attack Corrosion
The most common form of corrosion; it is characterized by a general corrosive action that is evenly distributed over the entire corrosion region.
Crevice Corrosion
Found in crevices or deep narrow flaws; it often involves the entry of an electrolyte solution leading to dissociation of metal ions.
Pitting Corrosion
A localized form of corrosion resulting in the formation of pits or small holes, often leading to sudden failure.
Intergranular Corrosion
A type of corrosion that preferentially attacks the grain boundaries of a metal, often occurring in stainless steel and certain aluminum alloys.
Stress Corrosion Cracking
Cracking that occurs in stressed components exposed to a corrosive environment, often leading to brittle fracture.
Fatigue Corrosion
Corrosion that occurs due to repeated cycles of bending or loading, disrupting the protective film on the metal surface.
Fretting Corrosion
A wear process caused by micromotion near an implant surface, leading to the removal of the passivating layer.
Pourbaix Diagram
A graphical representation of the thermodynamic stability of different phases of a substance in relation to pH and potential, used for analyzing corrosion.
