Electric Force
The force between charged objects; depends on the amount of charge and the distance between charges.
Electric Field
The region around a charged object where electric forces can be exerted on another charged object.
Static Electricity
Electric charge that builds up on an object that has gained or lost electrons and does not move along a wire.
Friction (Charging)
Charging by wiping electrons from one object onto another.
Conduction (Charging)
Charging by moving electrons from one object to another through direct contact.
Induction (Charging)
Charging by rearranging charges in an uncharged metal object without direct contact with a charged object.
Electric Discharge
The loss of static electricity as charges move off an object.
Grounding
Connecting an object to the earth through a wire, neutralizing the object.
Law of Electric Charges
Like charges repel; opposite charges attract.
Negative Electric Charge
Carried by electrons; negative electric charge.
Positive Electric Charge
Carried by protons; positive electric charge.
Electrical Conductor
Materials that allow electric charge to flow easily.
Electrical Insulator
Materials that resist the flow of electric charge.
Semiconductor
Materials that have properties of both conductors and insulators.
Static Electricity
Electric charge at rest on an object.
