Molarity
The number of solute per liter of solution; also known as molar concentration
Molarity Triangle
Top: Moles (mol) Bottom left: Molarity (M) Bottom right liters (L)
Solute
One or more substances dissolved in a solution
Solvent
The substance that dissolves a solute to form a solution; the plentiful substance in the solution
Solution
A uniform mixture that can contains solids, liquids, or gases; also called a homogenous structure
Unsaturated solution
Contains less dissolved solute for a given temperature and pressure than a saturated solution, has further capacity to hold more solute
Saturated solution
Contains the maximum amount of dissolved solute for a given amount of solvent at a specific temperature and pressure
Supersaturated solution
A solution that has more dissolved solute than it should normally hold at a given temperature
Concentration
A measure of how much solute is dissoolved in a specific amount of solvent or solution
