Where do prokaryotes store DNA?
Floating in a region of the cytoplasm called the nucleoid.
Cell Membrane
A barrier that surrounds the cell that controls the movement of things going in and out of the cell.
Nucleolus
A structure in Eukaryotic nuclei that makes and assembles ribosomes
Nucleoid
The region where is prokaryotic cell’s DNA is located; inside the cytoplasm
Animal vacuole
Small storage area for waste products
Nucleus
the control center of the eukaryotic cells that contains its DNA
Cytoplasm
the fluid inside the cell where majority of the cell’s chemical reactions occur, and, in eukaryotic cells, holds organelles.
smooth ER
Membrane tubules that don’t have ribosomes. They synthesize lipids, store calcium ions, and detoxify substances.
Plant Vacuole
Large storage area and regulates turgor pressure.
why is it called a “Rough ER”?
its outer surface is studded with ribosomes
Chloroplasts
An organelle found in plant and algae cells where photosynthesis occurs.
Golgi Apparatus
Modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and lipids for transport within or outside the cell. Located in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells.
Cytoskeleton
The internal framework of cells that supports its movement and transport.
Cytosol
the fluid part of the cytoplasm
Where do eukaryotes store DNA
Inside the nucleus of the cell
Flagellum
A long whip-like structure used for movement through the cells environment.
Eukaryotes
An organism that has a nucleus and organelles within a memrbane.
Lysosome
An eukaryotic organelle that contains digestive enzymes that break down the “waste” parts of the cell.
Prokaryotes
A cell that doesn’t have a distinct nucleus or other membrane-bound organelles.
Ribosomes
Small structures made of RNA and protein that synthesize proteins.
Rough ER
The location in which the ribosomes are planted and synthesize proteins.
Cell Wall
A rigid layer outside of the cell membrane that provides structure and protection to the cell.
Mitochondria
Produces the cells energy via cellular respiration.
