What does the PCR do?
Amplifies a certain DNA sequence
What is required for the process?
DNA polymerase, Multiple primers, nucleotides, and enzymes
What do primers do?
They start the replication process, and identify the boundaries of the sequence that needs to be copied
What is Taq polymerase?
It is the Pol. used in the process which is found in bacterial species (Thermus aquaticus) found in thermal hot springs
How is the amount of DNA in each replication cycle?
It doubles each time
How many copies are made after 25 cycles?
about 30 million
How is this process executed now?
It is automated by a thermocycler (many hot water baths set at a specific temperature)
