Pilot study
A small-scale trial run of an actual investigation. Allows the researcher to identify any potential issues and to modify the design
Why are pilot studies helpful?
Helpful to try out questions in advance and remove any confusion in a self-report method. Provides a way of checking coding systems before the investigation in observational studies
Why are pilot studies helpful?
Allow the researcher to try the study with fewer participants so adjustments can be made before the main study to save time and money
How can pilot studies be used in an experiment
To check timings, checks the participants understanding of the questions asked, checks standardised instructions, could be used to ask a few participants about their experience
