- We give the insight; God gives the understanding
Realization
First Phase of the Process of Change
Remorse
- One comes to feel sorrow in relation to their sin
- One of the challenges we have in the church is that we have a lot of arrogant sinners. They can intelligently explain to you why they're sinning, but there don't want to do anything about it
- What happens too often is that we give them information, but they're not broken
Remorse
Second Phase of the Process of Change
Renounce
- It means to confess your sin to God and others when appropriate
- But that doesn't complete the process of change
Renounce
Third Phase of the Process of Change
Repentance
- One comes to turn away fro their sin towards God and others, accordingly
- Jay Adams said that for those who sin specifically is not enough
- As we're doing counseling, not only do we have to see what's wrong, but we also have to look at specifically what is right. We need to give them an application tool to move into that direction
Repentance
Fourth Phase of the Process of Change
Renewal/Replacement
- Well, now that I have turned away form the wrong thing, I need to study God's Word to understand the right thing
- Now I'm constantly meditating on the Word of God, constantly trying to understand what He says that I need to start doing as I've turned away from what I needed to stop doing. And as a result, I'm learning the new direction
Renewal/Replacement
Fifth Phase of the Process of Change
Replacement
- One comes to obey God and others and love others in the area where he or she has disobeyed God and been unloving towards others
Replacement
