Classical Conditioning
Repeated association of 2 or more stimuli, unconsciously linking one ‘thing’ to another, causing a leant response.
Behaviorist
Before Conditioning
A stimulus in the environment has produced a natural response.
No new behavior has been learnt yet.
NS, UCS = UCR
During Conditioning
A stimulus which previously produced no response is now associated with another stimulus.
One stimulus acts as a cue for the other stimulus, must be paired on several occasions for learning to take place.
However, one trial learning can happen on certain occasion.
NS + UCS = UCR
After Conditioning
After being repeatedly linked with ‘something’ naturally produces a reaction, the other ‘something’ that originally didn’t affect you before now causes the same reaction on its own.
You have now learnt a response.
CS = CR
