Jesus sighs deeply. This represents Jesus’s humanity. As Jesus is not annoyed by the requests, but deeply saddened by the people’s refusal to believe despite the clear evidence of his power.

Jesus said this to emphasize an important truth. Walking with Jesus doesn’t mean a life of death and crosses, it also means to live in his glory and reside in the kingdom of god. Some of the disciples will see the glimpses of this glory.

Jesus’s ministry was only focused to the Jews, and the lady was a Gentile so Jesus was trying to reject her. Then the lady replies with, “even the little dogs eat the crumbs that fall off the table.” She wanted to be blessed in some way and that was to be a “dog.”
