what do the hypothalamus and pituitary gland have in common?
Both are a command centre for the body
Hypothalamus
located at base of brain below thalamus; regulates bodily functions (temperature, water balance and heart rate); creates other hormones and sends to posterior lobe to be stored and released
Pituitary Gland Location
located under hypothalamus and joined to it by the infundibulum
Anterior Lobe
no nerves connecting to hypothalamus instead connected by a network of blood vessels; releases a number of hormones that regulate bodily functionand is responsible for hormone secretion.
Posterior Lobe
joined to hypothalamus by nerve fibers that pass throughthe infundibulum; stores and releases hormones produced by the hypothalamus.
