Charter State
17 states which adopted the national constitution and official name of DECA in 1948: Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and Washington
Chartered Associations
Consist of local school chapters within a state or equivalent geographic unit and perform 4 basic functions including:
1. Act as a unifying body by providing an opportunity for the chapters to work and plan together on a state-wide association basis.
2. Set standards which local chapters must meet before a charter can be granted
3. Act as a clearinghouse for information and ideas that will benefit DECA locally, association-wide, and nationally/internationally
4. Act as a liaison between DECA Inc. and chapters in carrying out programs and projects
CTSO
Career and Technical Student Organization (includes organizations such as DECA, FFA, BPA, HOSA etc)
What does DECA do?
Prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. It is represented by a president and 4 vice presidents, at both the high school and college level. Services are provided to over 222,000 students in 3,700 chapters in 51 high school-chartered state associations

What does the Program of Leadership (POL) do?
1. brings together the leadership team, DECA goals and action items for the year into one strategic leadership plan
2. provides a comprehensive plan of the chapter's goals and activities for the school year
3. aligns each goal with a mission area, assigns overall responsibility to a leader, and indicates the key project initiative, success criteria, time frame and project leaders

Four Main Objectives of Parliamentary Law
1. to do one thing at a time
2. Courtesy to everyone
3. The rule of the majority must prevail
4. The right of the minority must be protected
Parliamentary Principles
1. Only One main motion may be considered at a time
2. Each member's rights are equal to those of his/her fellow members
3. the majority has the right to work its will and its decisions must be followed
4. the minority has the right to be heard
Quorum
One plus 50 % of the members are present and eligible to vote
Types of Motions
Main, Subsidiary, Incidental, Privileged, motions that bring a question again before the assembly
Main Motions
All business to be considered by and assembly is introduced by a main motion. can only be considered if no other business is pending
Subsidiary Motions
those that may be applied to another motion for the purpose of modifying it, delaying action of it, or disposing of it
Incidental Motions
Motions which deal with questions of procedure and arise our of another pending motion of item of business (not debatable)
Privileged Motions
those that are unrelated to the current motion, but are of such urgency or importance they are considered immediately
Two types of amendments
1. First order - and amendment to the motion
2. Second order- an amendment to the amendment
