What is the main power source in DA40NG?
A 28V DC electrical system powered primarily by an engine-driven alternator
What is an alternator in aeroplane?
A belt-driven component that converts mechanical engine energy into electrical power ( AC, rectified to DC) to run flight instruments, lights, and avionics while continuously recharging the battery
What does VOLTS do?
measure electrical pressure (potential difference) pushing electrons through circuit
Volts represent potential energy
What does Watts do?
Measure the total power of rate of energy consumption
Watts represent actual power output
Watts= Volts x Amps
What is the purpose of battery?
To provide power for an engine start and as a backup in case of alternator failure
What happens if alternator fails?
The aircraft runs on battery power only, requiring load shedding to conserve energy
What is load shedding?
Turning off non-essential electrical equipment to extend battery life
How do you recognise alternator failure?
Low voltage
Battery discharging
Warning annunciation
What is an essential bus?
A bus that supplies critical systems required for a safe flight
What equipment is usually on the essential bus?
Basic flight instruments
Communication/ navigation
Engine monitoring
Short memory pack
Alternator = main power
Battery = backup
Failure → load shedding
Essential bus = critical systems
