What does autotrophs mean?
They can make their own food
T/F - Plants are autotrophs
True
What are the products of photosynthesis?
Glucose, Water and Carbon dioxide
What is needed for photosynthesis to happen?
Carbon dioxide, water and sunlight
What is the word equation for photosynthesis
Carbon Dioxide + Water —> Glucose +Oxygen
How is carbon dioxide accessed by plants?
It diffuses into the leaf through the stomata
How does the plant get water?
Taken up by the roots and transported by the xylem to the leaves
What is glucose used for in the plant?
Used to make needed substances
What is oxygen used for in the plant?
Its not, it diffuses out of the leaf through the stomata
What is the balanced symbol equation for Photosynthesis?
6CO2+6H2O —>C6H12O6+6O2
Where does photosynthesis take place?
In the chloroplast
Is photosynthesis exothermic or endothermic?
Endothermic in which energy is transferred from the environment to the chloroplasts by light
What is an endothermic reaction?
A chemical reaction that absorbs energy from its surroundings
What is an exothermic reaction
A chemical reaction that releases energy into its surroundings
What are three factors that affect photosynthesis?
Temperature, light, carbon dioxide concentration
How does the temperature affect the rate of photosynthesis?
The higher the temperature the quicker the rate of photosynthesis until it hits the optimum temperature and the enzyme begins to denature
How does the increasing intensity of light affect photosynthesis?
The more light the faster the rate of photosynthesis, until another factor needed will prevent the rate from further increasing
How does carbon dioxide concentration affect the rate of photosynthesis?
The more Carbon dioxide available the higher the rate of photosynthesis until another factor limits it from increasing any more.
