The 1st purposes of civil law:

1. To promote social cohesion so that some people or groups do not exploit the rights of others.

The 2nd purpose of civil law:

1. To protect individuals’ rights, for example, the right to a safe workplace, the right to own property that you purchased with your own money.

The 3rd purpose of civil law:

1. To provide an avenue for people to seek compensation when a breach of civil law has occurred. 

The 4th purpose of civil law:

1. To award victims of civil law wrongs with compensation, otherwise known as damages.
