Fatty Acid Oxidation Catabolism (breaks)
Fatty acids—to acetyl coA (which can feed into CAC/Krebs)
number of rounds: (Carbons/2)-1
# of acetyl coA: (carbons/2)
number of rounds=number of FADH2 and NADH (produced)
For unsaturated fats 1 double bond=1- FADH2
*Happens in the mitochondrial matrix
Small amnt of ATP needed to start but can ultimitatly lead to more
Can create 106 ATP
Fatty Acid Synthesis Activation
Acetyl coA first binds to ACP then transfers to the active site then malonyl binds to the ACP
Fatty Acid Synthesis Anabolism (builds)
Acetyl coA—Palmitate (fatty acid)
Reverse of oxidation
NADPH—NADP^+
*Happens in the cytosol
Needs a lot of ATP to start
Creates palmitate from acetyl coA ( which can undergo further modifications in the smooth ER
Ketogenesis
Creating ketone bodies from acetyl coA
1: Acetoacetate
and then
2: Acetone
3: N-Hydroxybutyrate
