zig zags on either sides of the road
BELISHA BEACONS
no light traffic signal to control traffic flow - right of way is automatically given to pedestrians
if a crossing is split with a pedestrian refuge in the middle, they should be treated as two different crossings

pelican crossing
a set of traffic lights, with sets of zig zag lines before and after on either side of the road
a box with a display and a button will be on each side of the crossing
pedestrian activated
has flashing amber light as part of its sequence (only crossing with this)

puffin crossing
set of traffic lights with sets of zig zag lines before and after on either side of the road
has a pedestrian crossing detector, and a pedestrian kerb detector - crossing becomes more efficient
no flashing amber phase

toucan crossing
similar to pelican and puffin, but have an additional sign for bikes
usually found on the outskirts of parks around 4m wide, compared to 2m
to operate a toucan crossing, cyclists and pedestrians should press the control panel and wait for either the green man/bike to show
no flashing amber stage
instrument panel warning lights - colour system
red - urgent, needs immediate attention
amber/yellow - less dangerous, should be addressed as soon as possible
