consecrated

evangelical counsels
the practices of poverty, chastity, and obedience that imitate the life of christ and pertains to EVERY person who wants to live as a christian
poverty
a person vows to remain extremely poor in imitation of Christ, owning few possessions of their own, and in the case of those consecrated persons living in community, to sharing property in common w/ community
Chastity
a person vows to live a life of perpetual virginity and celibacy for the sake of the kingdom, committing to abstain from all sexual/romantic relationships

a person vows to freely submit his/her will to a rule of life and to the authority of superior

most familiar form; mendicant=beggar; st. dominic and st frances of assissi; have a common purpose and take vows and live in community; men = brothers and women = sisters; work in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and care for the poor; wear habits
Societies of Apostolic Life
groups whose purpose is to build the kingdom of God, who live in community, but don't take religious vows and make a sacred bond instead; strive for the perfection of charity through observation of constitutions; community life is more flexible
