Abrasion
Superficial scraping of the skin.
Laceration
Tissue tears, irregular and deep.
Incision
Clean, surgical cuts.
Contusion
Bruise caused by blunt force trauma.
Penetrating/Puncture Wound
Small surface opening with deep internal damage.
First-degree burn
Affects epidermis only; superficial partial-thickness.
Second-degree burn
Epidermis and part of dermis affected; deep partial-thickness, painful and blistered.
Third-degree burn
Destruction of all skin layers; full-thickness.
Fourth-degree burn
Damage extends to underlying muscles and bones.
Atrophy
Decrease in cell size or number.
Hypertrophy
Increase in cell size.
Hyperplasia
Increase in the number of cells.
Neoplasia
Abnormal and excessive cell growth (tumors).
Benign Tumor
Slow-growing, encapsulated, do not invade surrounding tissue.
Malignant Tumor
Rapid growth, invasive, can metastasize.
Carcinoma
Malignant tumor from epithelial tissue (e.g., lung, breast, stomach).
Sarcoma
Malignant tumor from connective tissue (e.g., bone, cartilage, muscle).
Leukemia & Lymphoma
Blood and lymphatic system cancers.
Pneumothorax
Air in pleural space causing lung collapse.
Rib Fractures
Can puncture lungs and other organs.
Spleen/Liver Lacerations
Risk of hemorrhage.
Ruptured Bladder
Requires immediate intervention.
Hangman's Fracture
C2 vertebral fracture.
Jefferson Fracture
C1 vertebra burst fracture.
Concussion
Temporary loss of brain function.
Epidural Hematoma
Arterial bleeding between skull and dura.
Subdural Hematoma
Venous bleeding under the dura.
