Independent School

A school registered or deemed to be registered in terms of section 46 of the South African Schools Act, 1996.

Learner

Any person receiving education or obliged to receive education in terms of the South African Schools Act, 1996.

Member of Staff

A person employed at a school.

Parent

The parent or guardian of a learner, the person legally entitled to custody of a learner, or the person who undertakes to fulfil the obligations of a person referred to in paragraphs (a) and (b) towards the learner's education at school.

Principal

An educator appointed or acting as the head of a school.

Public School

A school contemplated in Chapter 3 of the South African Schools Act, 1996.

School

A public school or an independent school which enrols learners in one or more grades between grade zero and grade twelve.

School Fund

The governing body of a public school must establish a school fund and administer it in accordance with directions issued by the Head of Department
