HEENT
An acronym for Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Throat, commonly used to describe a type of medical assessment.
Normocephalic
A term used to indicate that the head is normal in shape and size, and symmetrical.
Microcephaly
A condition characterized by an abnormally small head.
Macrocephaly
A condition characterized by an abnormally large head.
Hydrocephalus
An abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain.
PERRLA
An acronym for Pupils Equal, Round, Reactive to Light and Accommodation, used in eye assessments.
Dysphagia
Difficulty swallowing.
Lymphadenopathy
Enlargement of the lymph nodes, greater than 1.5 cm.
Goiter
Hypertrophy of the thyroid gland, which may indicate hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.
Strabismus
A condition in which the eyes are not aligned in the same direction.
Nystagmus
Involuntary rhythmical movement of the eyeball in various directions.
Photophobia
Sensory discomfort experienced in bright light.
Conjunctivitis
Inflammation of the conjunctiva, can be bacterial, viral, or allergic.
Tinnitus
The perception of noise or ringing in the ears.
Cerumen
Earwax that protects the ear canal.
Dysarthria
A condition affecting the physical production of speech.
Otalgia
Ear pain.
Epistaxis
Nosebleed, which can occur spontaneously or due to trauma.
Herpes simplex
A virus that can cause cold sores, typically around the lips.
Aphthous ulcer
Painful oral lesions that appear on mucosal surfaces.
Dental caries
Decay or cavities in the teeth.
Xerostomia
Dryness of the mouth due to reduced saliva production.
Acute tonsillitis
An infection of the tonsils characterized by sore throat and difficulty swallowing.
Sinusitis
Inflammation of the sinuses, often resulting in pain and congestion.
Scleral icterus
Yellowing of the sclerae, often indicative of jaundice.
Goiter
An enlarged thyroid gland, which may be visible or palpable.
Hordeolum
A stye or infection in a sebaceous gland of the eyelid.
Chalazion
A firm, non-tender nodule in the eyelid due to blocked glands.
Dysuria
Painful urination.
Hematuria
Blood in the urine.
Amenorrhea
The absence of menstrual periods.
Menorrhagia
Heavy menstrual bleeding.
Gynecomastia
Enlargement of breast tissue in males, often related to hormonal imbalances.
BPH
Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy, an enlargement of the prostate gland.
Prostatitis
Inflammation of the prostate gland.
Endometriosis
A disorder in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
Polyp
A small clump of cells that forms on the lining of the colon or rectum.
Cystocele
A protrusion of the bladder into the anterior wall of the vagina.
Rectocele
A hernia of the rectum into the posterior wall of the vagina.
Urinary retention
Inability to empty the bladder completely.
