Medical Technology
A Profession who aids the physician in the diagnosis, study, and treatment of disease.
Pathologist
Captain of the ship, specializes in diagnosing diseases by examining tissue, blood, and body fluids.
Medical Technologist
A person trained and licensed to perform lab test under a Pathologist
Medical Laboratory Technician
not licensed but can do the routine under a licensed Medtech
Examination of specimens
analyzing blood, urine, stool, tissues, etc to detect diseases

Medical Technology Board consist of:
Members: 1 Chairman (Pathologist) + 2 Members (MedTechs), appointed by the President.
Functions of the Board
a. Administer exams
b. Issue and revoke licenses
c. Look after ethical practice
d. Investigate violations of the law
e. Make rules and regulations
Qualifications of Examiners
Natural-born Filipino
Good moral character
Registered MedTech or Pathologist
Practiced for at least 10 years
Not faculty member of a MedTech school (at time of appointment)
Executive Officer of the Board
he Commissioner of PRC acts as the Executive Officer of the Board.
Compensation of Members of the Board
Board members are given compensation for each applicant examined or for official functions.
Functions and Duties of the Board
Administers the licensure exam
Approves or disapproves applications
Investigates malpractice
Issues, suspends, or revokes certificates
Removal of Board Members
Members can be removed due to neglect, malpractice, or unethical conduct.
Accreditation of Schools of Medical Technology and Training Laboratories
ony schools and labs approved by CHED and DOH can offer MedTech programs or internship.
Inhibition Against the Practice of Medical Technology
Only those properly licensed and registered can practice Medical Technology.
Qualification for Examination
A Filipino citizen
Has good moral character
A graduate of Medical Technolgy course or Public health
Scope of Examination
Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Blood Banking, Clinical Microscopy, Histopathologic Techniques, etc.
Report of Rating
PRC releases exam results 120 days after the examination.
Rating in the Examination
Must get 75% average with no subject below 50% to pass.
Oath Taking
Passers must take an oath before practicing as medical technologists.
Refusal to Issue Certificate
Conviction of a crime
Immoral conduct
Unethical practices
Administrative Investigation
Board may investigate violations and recommend suspension/revocation of certificate.
Appeal
Decisions can be appealed to the Civil Service Commissioner within 30 days.
Foreign Reciprocity
foreigners can practice if their country allows Filipinos to practice there as well.
Penal Provisions
Penalties for violations:
ā±2,000āā±5,000 fine or
Imprisonment of 6 months to 2 years
Repealing Clause
All laws inconsistent with RA 5527 are repealed or modified.
Effectivity
Act takes effect after 15 days of publication.
