What are biofuels made from
Recently living organisms(plants and waste )
Generally comes from plants and algae because they can photosynthesise so they can look up the suns energy which can then be released later when they are burnt for fuels
Why are biofuels seen as carbon neutral
Burning bio fuels produce carbon dioxide but they are also seen as carbon neutral because they took up carbon dioxide while growing so there is no overall release of carbon dioxide
What are the pros and cons of biofuels
Pros:- renewable
-relatively cheap to make
– easy to transport
– can mix with fossil fuels.
Cons: – need somewhere to grow plants meaning converting natural land E.G.cutting down forests.
– Harvesting, processing and transporting require energy so more carbon dioxide is released.
