What do marxists see religion as
A tool of opression, in which maintains the status quo, further opressing people by justifiying their position, and creating false class consciousness
Marxists even explain how religious views in itself, while they now justify suffering, they also contributed to the renissance of capitalism, showing how without religious views dying out, a revolution will never be achieved - People are still being dissalouisned by religion today
Contrasting views to that of Marxism
While Marxism argues the role of religion is still prevelant today in justifiying inequality they ignore both the positive functions of religion such as liberation, collective conscience
Also, due to their theoretical views as conflict theorists in whcih most of their ideas are drawn from the idea surrounding the capitalist superstructure dominating religon, they ignore the level of secularisation that has occured in todays society
