What is the meaning of "forebears" in paragraph 8?
B. ancestors
How does paragraph 6 contribute to the development of ideas in the text?
D. give an example of an early solution for slavery
How do early anti-slavery sentiments compare to those of later years?
The main difference was that early anti-slavery supporters encouraged a gradual end to slavery, where the later anti-slavery supporters pushed for an immediate end to slavery. The text says, "They were more radical than members of the early anti-slavery societies." The new abolitionists wanted slaves to be let free without compensation to slave owners. The South especially saw this as unfair because they would have to start paying their workers.
