Equation: Wave Speed, Frequency and Wavelength
Wave speed (m/s) = Frequency (Hz) x Wavelength (m). v = f x λ
Transverse Waves
Oscillations which are perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer. E.g. Light
Longitudinal Waves
Oscillations which are parallel to the direction of energy transfer. E.g. Sound.
Definition: Wavelength (m)
Distance from one point on the wave to the same point on the next wave.
Definition: Frequency (Hz)
The number of complete waves that pass through a permanent point per second.
Definition: Amplitude (m)
The distance from the equilibrium to the crest or the trough.
Definition: Time Period (s)
The time taken for one complete wave to pass.
Definition: Wave Front
The approaching crest of a wave.
Definition: Wave
Transfers energy or info. without transferring matter. All waves can be reflected and refracted.
Doppler effect
The change in the frequency of a wave in relation to an observer who is moving relative to the source of the wave.
